If you live in Baltimore or are visiting, you would probably love a few places to take the kids that are fun and inexpensive. Here are a few of our favorite parks and nature getaways which range from free to family-friendly on the budget.
#1 – The Patterson Park Pagoda – The entire Patterson Park area is a great place to take your family, but our kids love the Pagoda. The Asian themed tower stands proudly above the park beckoning for you to drop in and climb to the upper floor. Once you are at the top, you can look out the windows on all sides and see Baltimore in a way you’ve never seen her before.
#2 – Druid Hill Park – This park is for everyone in the family. The parents will love the botanical gardens in the park featuring a wide array of flowers and plants. The kids will be drawn to the zoo, which parents are sure to love, too. Just walking around the park can be fun. You will discover interesting statues, wood carvings, and places to play.
#3 – Federal Hill Park – This park provides an amazing view of the city. It was originally a military lookout location. A cannon is still mounted on the hill prepared to do battle. Your kids will be more interested in doing battle on all the great equipment in the kid’s play area.
#4 – Robert E. Lee Memorial Park – Grab your fishing pole, lace-on your hiking boots, and bring along a great camera when you visit this park. The park features a great fishing stream so your entire family can enjoy a little fishing time. Then put on the boots and wander up and down the scenic trails. At almost every turn you will be grabbing your camera to snap pictures of Nature’s beauty. Don’t miss stopping by to check out the eagles, too.
#5 – Leakin Park – This is one of the times we are really turning to nature. The park features a great running path, but it is when you venture onto other paths the adventure really begins. This park is not packed with playground equipment, it is packed with nature. You can get away from the noises of the city and enjoy some time to listen to the wind rustling the leaves, to hear birds chirping in the trees, and to reconnect with nature.
#6 – Pierce’s Park – Hidden down near the waterfront is park few people talk about and you may want to keep as your secret, too. The park is a quiet getaway your kids will love. They can go through the tree tunnel or play in the fun steel funnel in the park. This park is a great place for a picnic, or to play some frisbee.
#7 – Rash Field – If you want to slip away to watch a bunch of young adults and teens having a blast, then skip over to Rash Field. Every warm day you will find the park bustling with people playing volleyball and other sports in the fabulous sand arena. There is no reason for you to stay on the sidelines, jump into the action and have a blast.
Hopefully, this group of parks will give your family a few new places to explore in Baltimore Maryland. The next weekend is just days away, so it is time to make your plans.
